Data Ownership within the Elements of Data Governance

To create a Data Governance framework that aligns with your organisation’s Business Policy there are three key aspects that need to be in the framework for it to thrive. These are Policy, Process, and Roles and Responsibilities.

These three elements are vital to the success of any Data Governance initiative that’s being embarked upon by any organization.

The Roles and Responsibilities aspect of this initiative is about engaging the right people within the organization to be accountable for one or more Data assets.

The ownership model helps to tackle the quality of Data, the definitions of what the Data means, where it’s stored, and what it’s used for within the organization.

An Ownership model works well and tackles Data issues when a suitable stakeholder with a budget and authority to fix the Data issues that affect him/her becomes a Data Owner.

The Data owners who are now accountable for one or more Data assets can nominate Data stewards to help them with these responsibilities.
